Lucy is a sports podiatrist and specialises in treating sports and running injuries, particularly those caused by repetitive stress or sub-optimal biomechanics.
Your foot is a complex structure over which your whole body is propelled forwards. It is also a shock absorber, cushioning anatomical structures within the foot and lower limb from the huge forces placed through it at every step. This is particularly relevant during running and other sporting activities that involve running, cutting and jumping where particularly large forces are placed on the foot and ankle. Movement at the foot and ankle also has a significant impact on tissue stress further up the kinetic chain including on our hips and knees.
Lucy looks specifically at impact absorption and propulsion highly relevant to sporting activities and if indicated prescribes 100% bespoke custom made ultra lightweight 3d printed orthotics to fit the unique contours of your foot and modify the forces or kinetics acting on the joints and muscles of your lower limb. She combines this with footwear advice, strength and conditioning, training & activity modification and gait re-training if indicated.
Lucy is a runner herself. She ran the Brighton Marathon in 2012 and now volunteers as part of the marathon medical team giving her insight into the challenges faced by long distance runners.
