Athlete's foot treatment and antifungal care

Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection of the skin on the feet, particularly between the toes. It can lead to intense itching, peeling areas of skin, redness and scaling.

Athlete’s foot is highly contagious and thrives in moist and warm environments. This is why it often spreads in places like communal swimming pools, showers and gyms.

Common symptoms

  • Itching or stinging usually between the fourth and fifth toes initially
  • Dry, flaky skin around the heels or elsewhere on the foot.
  • Cracked or blistered or peeling areas of skin
  • Redness and scaling

Treatment options at Hove Foot Clinic

Athlete's foot is usually treated with anti-fungal creams or sprays which are applied directly to the affected area. It is important that hosiery and footwear are also treated to prevent re-infection. If left untreated the fungus can spread to the toenails.
