Do you provide sports podiatry services for foot and ankle injuries?
ExpandWe specialise in sports injuries. Lucy holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Podiatric Sports Medicine from the prestigious Queen Mary University in London, part of Barts & the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Podiatric Sports Medicine is a specialised branch of podiatry focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing foot, ankle, and lower limb injuries related to sports and physical activity.
Think of it as sports medicine with a foot-and-ankle focus - handled by a podiatrist with additional training who understands the mechanics of movement and the specific demands athletes place on their lower bodies.
Podiatric Sports Medicine covers injury diagnosis & treatment, biomechanical assessments, custom orthotics, performance optimisation and tailored rehab and recovery plans to return to sport safely. If you have a sports injury you would require a musculoskeletal assessment/ consultation or possibly an advanced musculoskeletal assessment with gait analysis - please see the further FAQs for further information on what the advanced appointment entails.
Do you offer gait analysis and what does the advanced musculoskeletal assessment including gait analysis involve?
Expand
We specialise in gait analysis utilising the latest dynamic foot scan technology.Gait, whether walking or running, is a series of complex moves that the body performs hundreds or thousands of times a day. Podiatry biomechanics is the analysis of the way in which the muscles, bones and joints of the feet and lower limb interact and move. Many problems caused by these biomechanical factors can lead to foot, heel, or ankle pain such as plantar fasciitis or bunions, knee, hip and lower back issues. Sports injuries are also often incurred by these mechanical faults or inabilities. Clinically analysing gait can determine a possible cause to your symptoms and be a starting point in the management plan to getting back to pain free movement.
In the advanced musculoskeletal assessment appointment including gait analysis we look at your lower body functionality specifically in terms of impact absorption and propulsion. We assess the structure, alignment and function of your lower limb and foot using innovative computerised dynamic foot scan technology along with visual and video analysis of your walking and running gait if relevant to measure your dynamic movements and function. The foot scan technology captures detailed data about the pressure and movement of your feet. It contains thousands of tiny sensors that record:
- Timing (when each part of your foot touches and leaves the ground)
- Pressure distribution (how much force each part of your foot exerts)
- Centre of pressure (how your weight moves during your step)
- Gait line and symmetry (how evenly you move between both feet)
If indicated the dynamic foot scan generated at this appointment can be used to create a 100% bespoke custom made orthotic.
How can a podiatrist help with runner's knee?
ExpandRunner’s knee is often linked to poor biomechanics, overuse, or improper footwear. We can help you through gait analysis, and by assessing your lower limb alignment and foot mechanics to identify the cause of stress on your knees. Recommended treatments might include strengthening exercises, footwear changes or custom orthotics to reduce strain and support proper movement.
Can you help with sports-related foot injuries?
ExpandSports injuries to the foot and ankle are common, whether you're a runner, a footballer or a gym-goer. Overuse, incorrect footwear, or sudden impact can cause problems like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures or ankle sprains.
At Hove Foot Clinic, we use biomechanical assessments and gait analysis to diagnose the root cause of your pain and offer tailored treatment plans. From custom orthotics, pain relieving injections to rehabilitation strategies, we’ll help you recover fully and get back to the sport you love.
Do you treat Achilles tendon problems?
ExpandAchilles tendinopathy is one of the most common conditions that we see in our clinic in Hove.
It is an overuse injury that causes inflammation, irritation, or degeneration of the Achilles tendon, the thick band of tissue that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. It’s the largest tendon in the body and essential for walking, running, jumping, and pushing off with your foot
There are two main types of Achilles Tendinopathy, mid-portion and insertional.
At Hove Foot Clinic, we treat Achilles tendinopathy with strengthening and stretching exercises, footwear change, orthoses or heel lifts and shockwave therapy. It’s very important that exercises are tailored to you individually. Generic exercise programs are often unhelpful.
What treatments do you offer for arthritic feet?
ExpandArthritis in the feet can cause stiffness, swelling, and joint pain. At Hove Foot Clinic, we offer treatments to help manage the symptoms of arthritic feet and improve your quality of life.
The treatments may include custom orthoses and footwear advice to redistribute the pressure as you walk. We carefully tailor each treatment plan to your level of mobility and lifestyle.
What is a medical pedicure, and how does it differ from a regular pedicure? Do you offer medical pedicures at Hove Foot Clinic?
ExpandYes, we offer medical pedicures at Hove Foot Clinic - these are bookable as the new patient problem nails, corns or callus appointment (£65) . A medical pedicure, or "medi-pedi," is a specialised foot care treatment performed by a health care professional such as podiatrist. Unlike a regular pedicure at a nail salon, a medical pedicure is a non-cosmetic, health-focused treatment that prioritises hygiene and the medical health of your feet.
What does a medical pedicure include?
-
- Comprehensive foot examination: The podiatrists thoroughly assess your feet for issues like fungal infections, ingrown toenails, warts, calluses, corns, cracked heels, and diabetic foot complications.
- Toenail trimming and debridement: Especially beneficial for thick, damaged, or fungal nails.
- Callus and corn removal: We use sterile tools and medically approved techniques for safe and effective callus and corn removal, not razors or pumice stones.
- Moisturising and skin care: We use medical-grade products to moisturise and care for your skin, promoting optimal foot health.
- Foot care advice: Our podiatrists offer personalised foot care advice, including tips for at-home care, footwear suggestions, and recommendations for any necessary follow-up.
What are the benefits of a medical pedicure?
-
-
- Sterile environment and instruments: Medical pedicures are performed in a sterile environment with sterilised instruments, significantly reducing the risk of infection.
- Tailored to medical conditions: Medical pedicures are especially useful for individuals with diabetes, poor circulation, or compromised immune systems.
- Focus on treatment, not just grooming: Unlike regular pedicures, medical pedicures focus on treating and managing underlying foot and nail problems rather than just cosmetic appearance.
-
Who is a medical pedicure for?
-
- People with chronic foot conditions such as athlete's foot, nail fungus or ingrown toenails.
- People with diabetes or poor circulation.
- Anyone concerned about the hygiene and safety of traditional nail salons.
- People seeking a medically safe and effective alternative to a cosmetic pedicure.
What are the treatment options for ingrown toenails?
ExpandIngrown toenails can be painful, swollen and prone to infection. At Hove Foot Clinic, we offer both conservative and surgical treatments depending on the severity.
Treatment options include gentle nail reshaping, removing the affected nail edge, and in persistent cases, a minor surgery called partial nail avulsion, which removes part of the nail and prevents it from growing back in. The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic.
We also offer Onyfix nail correction, which is a non-invasive and painless treatment for ingrown toenails. It’s a great option for high-risk patients, children and individuals with diabetes.
How do you treat heel pain, such as plantar fasciitis?
ExpandPlantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It’s caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia: a band of tissue connecting your heel to your toes.
At Hove Foot Clinic, we treat heel pain with a tailored approach following a thorough examination. This may include stretching and strengthening exercises, orthotics, footwear advice and shockwave therapy. Our goal is to relieve your pain and help you move with ease again.
What are the treatment options for painful corns?
ExpandCorns can be removed painlessly using professional debridement and enucleation techniques. At Hove Foot Clinic we can also advise or implement strategies to target the underlying causes with an aim to reduce future recurrence.
What causes corns on feet?
ExpandCorns are areas of thickened skin that develop as a reaction to pressure or friction, often from ill-fitting shoes. Sometimes corns may develop due to underlying structural cause, such as bunions or abnormal walking patterns.

Do you provide diabetic foot care?
ExpandDiabetes can lead to reduced circulation and nerve function in the feet, increasing the risk of ulcers and infections. Regular podiatry care is essential for people diagnosed with diabetes.
We provide comprehensive diabetic foot checks to monitor loss of sensation in foot, nail care, and advice on footwear and self-care routines. Our podiatrists are experienced in spotting signs of complications and will work with you to keep your feet healthy and pain-free.
Do you treat children's foot conditions?
ExpandYes, we treat a range of children’s foot conditions, from “flat feet” and walking difficulties to painful heels, persistent verrucae, and ingrown toenails.
Children’s feet are still developing, so early assessment can prevent long-term problems. Our podiatrists use a calm, reassuring approach to make children feel at ease during treatment and gently care for their growing feet.
Do you offer home visits?
