Verrucae are warts that occur on the soles of the feet or around the toe area. They are caused by a viral infection, which affects the outer layer of skin (epidermis). Verrucas are very common and affect about 10% of the population. Most people have tried some form of verruca treatment… but it hasn’t worked and they end up living with their verruca problem. The verruca virus can enter the skin if there is any break in the skin or if the skin is very moist, which explains why many people pick them up at swimming pools.
