Podiatric balance assessments and falls prevention
Balance problems increase with age and significantly impact your daily life, increasing the risk of falls and injuries. Many issues can affect your ability to walk steadily, including (but not limited to):
- Ageing and the natural decline of muscle strength
- Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease
- Arthritis or other joint problems
- Weak muscles or tendons and nerve damage (neuropathy)
Podiatric balance assessments at Hove Foot Clinic
Everyone may trip or fall from time to time but, if you’re older, a trip or fall could be very serious. At Hove Foot Clinic, our HCPC-registered podiatrists will conduct a thorough evaluation to determine the factors contributing to your balance issues.
We will also consider signs of any underlying diseases. If we suspect that an underlying condition may be causing your balance problems, a referral to another specialist would be instigated.
Based on the findings, we develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Personalised treatment plans
Our goal is to improve your stability and confidence through personalised treatment plans. This might include:
- Footwear evaluation and recommendation to support mobility.
- Exercise programmes with strengthening and stretching exercises to perform at home. Exercise programmes have been shown to significantly reduce the rate of falls in older people.
- Referrals and coordinating with other healthcare professionals if necessary.
